As part of a fictional musical performance series that will be held at MoMA PS1. This assignment was assigned to communicate the intangible aspect of music, while still considering that there is a certain audience and visual vocabulary.
Steven Ellison known by his stage name “Flying Lotus” is an experimental, multi-genre music producer and rapper. He is known for his jazz-infused and beat-centric electronic compositions to evoke daydreams, hazy memories, drug trips and even the dim hours between life and death.
The illustrative imagery was derived from my personal sculptural pieces. While listening to his music I was outlining the form of each sculpture piece. At the same time while I was moving my pen along every nook and cranny of the curves, I found the music rhythm rhythmical to the curves. The imagery is further developed through grouping, overlapping and repetition. The anomaly of the curves and forms is a notion of the varying musical beats and style of Flying Lotus.
